When the girls say they want shaved ice for dessert, of course, I dress it up and go big! I saw the orange cream shaved ice idea floating around Pinterest and Paige found the chocolate orange ice cream on Fitty Foodlicious blog. I put some of the different things I saw together for the shaved iced and ordered some fun garnishes on Amazon. One thing you want to make sure you do is refrigerate the condensed milk and orange syrup, that the recipe calls for, before you put them on the shaved ice. I did not and as soon as they hit they ice, it melted.

I found edible glitter stars and orange slice gummies to complete the look. It turned out wonderful. Just few small changes to your typical shaved ice and it's a totally different dessert. We have a shaved ice machine, we use it often but for some reason forgot how it works while we were filming. 🤣🤣 The shaved ice made a great topper to the ice cream.

Speaking of ice cream I was super pumped about making ice cream at home. We have a Kitchen Aid and there is an ice cream attachment for it. We were gonna do it last week but I hadn't read the directions (I gotta get better about that!) and the bowl has to be frozen 24 hours prior to use. So we did that and you would think that would give me time to read over the recipe better but I didn't. So things didn't turn out the way they should have but that's the beauty of this. I'm not trying to be this eveything is perfect and all the recipes are to dye for. That's not real life. The kids have to learn not everything turns out the way you;d hoped and practice make perfect.

We made the ice cream mixture and we put it in the ice cream maker. But after we had ran it for 30 minutes like we were supposed to, we go to pull the mixer attachment out and the chocolate is frozen to it, while the rest of the mixture is still soupy. I figured out why later. Couple of things. I thought I was being super smart when I took the melted chocolate and put it straight into the frozen ice cream maker bowl. with the other mixture ingredients. But it froze as soon as it hit the bowl. I went back and reread the recipe, yeah she says once every is mixed together (including the melted chocolate) to refrigerate it for a hour before putting it in the machine. 🤦🏻‍♀️

So she said to use orange oil but I'm guessing mine wasn't good because our ice cream had a funky taste and I know that was the culprit. I threw a splash of thee orange syrup we used on the shaved ice and that gave a great kick of flavor. She also said to use orang zest but I tried making this again and left that out. Instead I had just chunked up orange and added that. And I liked it better, I don't know, I just didn't care for the zest and it tasted much better when I made it the second time. I also added mini chocolate chips unmelted and chocolate hard shell swirled into the ice cream and that was a fantastic add. I got these great plastic ice cream tubs and they worked quite well. This recipe can be used with other fruits, the possibilities are endless. All n all I'm glad I learn how to do this and I'm gonna learn how to make other flavors. When we remade the ice cream it tasted fantastic and I will be vesting this food blog again, she has tons of ice cream recipes and I am all about making it at home now! The recipe below is a combination of how we made it in the video and what we did the second time.
