Check out the video of me teaching my girl's to cook. 😊
Today on our Homeschool Cooking Class, Paige was in the kitchen with her friend whipping up Mint Hot Cocoa and twisting up dough for Braided Sugar Cookie Sticks.
It is so fun when friends come to cook! Paige's friend GiGi was over and she loves being in the kitchen. She was so hopeful, she's a natural pro. She's like us, she loves to eat, maybe that's why our families get along so well. She was so excited to be co-starring, she's the first of many to come, we got a waiting list of kids this summer! Paige had picked the recipes, so when GiGi was looking them over her eyes got big with excitement. Her and Paige had so much fun. We had a lovely discussion about braiding. 🤣 I'm in love with my Kitchen Aid hand mixer, it's got rubber guards on the metal mixer. 😍
The girls were showing me how to braid, as if I didn't know I had to laugh seeing as I've been braiding Paige's hair since she was little. We did it though. We braided dough. Well first, I had to get the consistency right. The first time we went to make the braid sticks, the dough was crumbly. So I tried a little water but that wasn't giving it that playdough feel. Thinking fast I told Paige to melt some butter and started kneading it in. That fixed it. They came out delicious. No two braids were the same, at all. We have all sizes. I'm really bad about reading recipes all the way through, generally I can glance at it read the ingredient's and just know how they did it. I missed the the part where she said to put them in the freezer before baking them but I don't really feel like it would have made that big of a difference. I did refrigerate the dough before making the braids and that did help make them them firm enough to braid.
We also made hot cocoa, but not just any old plain hot cocoa, it was with melted white chocolate chips and mint extract. Mmmm it was so good. GiGi and I were licking up every last drop. My girls were eh with it because it was super sugary. With the Andes mint chocolate sprinkled on top, I was in heaven! Who came up with Andes anyway, I guess it's not that complicated but boy are they tasty! The perfect drink to dip our cookie braids into.
