Check out the video of me teaching my girl's to cook. 😊
What food were the kids cooking up this episode???
When Paisley told me she wanted to do root beer floats for family treat night, I kinda grumbled inside. Don't get me wrong, I love root beer floats, but I get bored of them. So I took to Pinterest (I'm addicted, don't judge me 🤣) and I fell down a rabbit hole. There are so many food bloggers out there that have come up with different ways to enjoy a root beer float. So many, that I had to make a board for all the pins. I was so excited to show Paisley my findings! It took her an hour to choose!
We had A LOT of mishaps during filming. The beauty of doing this YouTube channel with my girls is we don't rehearse or practice. We wing it. As I have my entire life. 😂 I say beauty, because have you ever watched a food blogger that does videos about the recipe they're making and everything is perfect. We're here to make you feel better about yourself. Perfect rarely happens in our kitchen. The good thing is my girls get to see how I improvise. Let's face it, we have all had to do it, it's a skill they will always use. The sooner they know how to think fast in a pickle, the sooner they'll know how to make sandwiches. See what I did there???
Anyway back to the mishaps. First, Paisley was opening the root beer and it exploded like a volcano. Our floor was so sticky. Next, I didn't know (cuz I'm not a baker) that you leave the pre-made pie crust in the tin. So when we tried to put it on a plate, it broke into a million pieces. Quick thinking, I crumbled it up, added some water and packed it back into the tray. Last, we had whipped cream that I had pulled out of the freezer the day before. Paisley told me it wasn't spraying. Again quick thinking, I chopped off the top, emptied it out into the blender, added some powdered super and hit high. Thickened it up and poured it in a bowl. Crisis averted.

We fought for this one. It was worth it. Oh I forgot, one of the ingredients it calls for is root beer extract. I didn't have any and the grocery store didn't either. So I googled what a good substitute is for it. Super easy, brown sugar syrup. Combined equal parts brown sugar and water in a pan. Heat until the sugar has dissolved, then allowed to cool before use. That's it and it worked just fine.
