Starburst Jell-o Sherbet & Strawberry Jell-o Gummy Candy | Homeschool Cooking Class

Check out the video of me teaching my girl's to cook. 😊

Today on our Homeschool Cooking Class, Paige chose Starburst Jell-o Sherbet, well not really not cooking learning to cook. Kind of the opposite. 🤣 Learning to freezing. To go with it she found these homemade Strawberry Jell-o Gummy Candy.

There are so many moments I where Paige is laughing at her Mama. Believe it or not I have blindness in my right eye from the stroke. So I can't always read the words up on the recipe boards. There are other things I do or can't do and the girls just laugh at me. I laugh at myself. I always say if you can't laugh at yourself, what can ya laugh at. Let's face it we all do silly stuff unintentionally. If you ain't laughin you're cryin. There is plenty to make you cry in this world, that's for sure. That's why I choose to laugh. And let my kids laugh at me. We do "real" in this house. No fake, plastic's here. I say all that because I caught this still shot of Paige with her hand covering her face because she's laughing at me. I can tell by look on my face I misread something. Oh well what can you do.

I like this ice cream mix the blogger suggested, Junket Vanilla Ice Cream Mix. It's good. Will use it more often. I found Starburst Jell-o online in a variety pack. Paige was super stoked. They tasted great together. This was really good ice cream really. and quite simple. It didn't last, by the next night it was gone. So she say's a 1/2 tablespoon of jell-o powder for each flavor your doing, we did more like 1/4 cup but honestly it could have been more. The flavors were subtle, which i guess you do want them to be but they were too subtle in my option. Like I said though, this ice cream was super ice to make and is a great summer treat. Next time I'd make more and I think I might try popsicles!

Something I learned while make the gummy candy is that you must be quick. It sets up fast. So if you don't have everything ready to go, you will have gummy goop, like we did. We got it in the molds but at the end we had a few gummy blobs. I didn't really have a plan going into it. I've never made gummy candies at home. I got to "make the mix". And then I panicked. I didn't even remember to cook the mixture, Paige caught it though and we kept going. We got candy but could have used let gummy and more jell-o favoring. Total side note but when I was review the footage for the thumbnail I saw the picture I used and just died. It was too perfect, totally not what I intended but those make the best pictures sometimes!

Don't forget to check out the video, 👇🏼at the end of the post,

of me teaching my daughters' to cook these recipes.

You'll laugh, 🤣 I promise.

Most of the time the recipes are borrowed and used in the video, to teach my daughters’ to cook. The photos are mine and I change things according to what we did in the video. I post it here for the viewers convenience and encourage you to check out the author, they have more insight on the recipe and lots of other recipes to share. Thank you, Penne 💕

Below are the recipes, the way they worked for us.

Ingredients

1¼ cups whole milk

¾ cup heavy whipping cream

½ tablespoon powder Jell-o flavors of choice

(we used Starburst flavors!)

Instructions

  1. Make sure your KitchenAid ice cream-making bowl is frozen before beginning.

  2. Place the 4 small glass bowls in the freezer for about 30 minutes

  3. With a whisk, combine the Junket Ice Cream Mix, whole milk, and heavy whipping cream until fully dissolved

  4. Gently pour the cream mixture into the KitchenAid mixing bowl. Put the KitchenAid ice cream-mixing bowl on “stir” mode.

  5. Let it stir for 25 to 30 minutes, or until vanilla ice cream is formed.

  6. Remove the 4 glass bowls from the freezer and evenly separate the vanilla ice cream into the 4 bowls.

  7. Put ½ tablespoon of the different Jello powder flavors in each small glass bowl and gently mix with a spoon until fully combined. Try to do this as fast as you can to prevent the ice cream from melting. But make sure to taste it and add more jello powder to liking.

  8. Put the 4 different ice cream flavors in 1 larger container that can be sealed.

  9. Cover the container and place it in the freezer for about 1-2 hours

Ingredients

3 oz Jell-o in flavor of your choice

(We used strawberry)

½ cup cold water

sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Spray candy mold with cooking spray.

  2. Next add 3 packets of gelatin to a ½ cup of cold water- stir constantly while adding the gelatin.

  3. Add one box of Jello to the mixture- stirring constantly.

  4. Either place the mixture in a microwave safe bowl and heat in 30 second intervals until smooth and melted. All the little grains of gelatin and Jello should be completely dissolved OR place in a pot and heat on the stovetop.

  5. You don't want to burn the mixture just get it completely smooth and melted so low to medium heat should be fine.

  6. Remove from heat and gently pour into the molds. Try to do so quickly because it will start setting quickly.

  7. Set aside for about 20 minutes until nice and firm.

  8. Place on a cutting board and sprinkle generously with sugar.
